The Journal of Vertebrate Biology is pleased to announce an upcoming Special Issue for 2022, with Guest Editors Dr Rowena Spence (Institute of Vertebrate Biology, Czech Republic) and Dr Nick Jones (University of St Andrews). The issue will focus on the behaviour, ecology and welfare of zebrafish, including laboratory and field studies. Submissions addressing one or more of the following themes are particularly encouraged:
- distribution and habitat preferences,
- growth, reproduction, population dynamics and conservation,
- shoaling, foraging, exploratory behaviour,
- reproductive ecology, mating system, mating tactics and reproductive behaviour,
- the value of the zebrafish as a model for behavioural and ecological studies,
- the welfare and housing of laboratory zebrafish.
Important or timely subjects that prospective contributors feel are related to current and emerging considerations but which are not stated in the theme will also be considered. Short reviews and meta-analyses are also welcomed.
The Journal of Vertebrate Biology publishes high-quality original research papers of broad interest. The Journal welcomes papers on the behaviour, ecology, physiology, anatomy, developmental biology, taxonomy, and evolution of vertebrates, including research at the interface of these disciplines. The Journal is open access with no publication charges, provides rapid reviewing, has no formatting requirements for initial submission. Assistance with English correction for non-native speakers is provided for accepted manuscripts.
The Journal is currently ready to receive submissions for this Special Issue and manuscripts will be accepted until 1 June 2022. Prior to submission of a full manuscript, a 200-word summary of the proposed paper should be submitted via email to Nick (narj@st-andrews.ac.uk) and Rowena (rs90spence@st-andrews.ac.uk) and CC’d to the Editor-in-Chief (Carl Smith; smith@ivb.cz). Please state that the submission is for consideration in the Special Issue “Behaviour, Ecology and Welfare of Zebrafish” and briefly describe how the manuscript addresses one or more of the themes, and provides a novel and timely contribution to the field. Manuscripts will be peer-reviewed upon submission and accepted articles included in a virtual Special Issue on the journal website in September 2022.
